Robin Barker - Philosophy
Having been asked what makes the perfect haircut. Robin answers,
"Suitability, contemporary design and customer satisfaction. I always ask the client 'Tell me what you don't want?'. I hear too often that their stylist did not listen."
"I believe I'm the only hairdresser who has first-time clients fill out such an in depth consultation form. My 'ten commandments' study in depth such factors as type of hair, face shape, lifestyle and how the hair grows."
"I love my work, I have to try my best, I'm always looking for change, something new, evolving one look to the next."
Foundation
"One grandfather was a famous surgeon, the other equally recognized as a fine china and pottery designer."
"I was lucky my initial hairdressing teacher started his career in 1900, he seemed to know every technique."
"I first loved the sexy chic Parisian hairstyles. Two years later the Sassoon and Carnaby Street influences were witnessed by all."
Creativity
Common sense, logic, simplicity, creativity, service and experience, an unbeatable combination.
"Eureka! I was in my 6th year of hairdressing. Pow! A light went on and suddenly I understood. I was able to separate myself from being just a follower and a copy cat. It just happened that I was able to invent techniques and consequently original designs by using logic and keeping everything pure, clean and simple. The majority of hairstylists start their haircuts in the nape area, I feel this is 'back to front', simply because first and foremost we are choosing a hairstyle to suit the face. Secondly, I discovered a way of cutting layers with the natural fall of the hair. Thirdly, unlike most stylists, I do not shape the hair by pulling it forward off the perimeter of the hairline, that's against gravity"
